A day out kick sampling!
We were joined by one of the classes from our Primary School Programme as part of our work to help young people deepen their connection with their local river and show how they can help protect it.
This year, we’ve reached 8 primary schools, working with 4th to 6th Class and a total of 145 students.
Kick sampling is a hands-on method for collecting freshwater macro-invertebrates from shallow, flowing water, like you see here in the video. These tiny creatures are brilliant indicators of water quality. Using the Citizen Science Stream Index (CSSI), we found the river to be in moderate condition.
