During the week, our Project Officer was taking a walk down the Glen of the lower Ballymacraven River. After some stormier weather, and heavy rainfall, it was sure that Autumn had arrived.
On the way back, near the confluence of the Ballymacraven and Inagh Rivers, a grey phalarope was spotted. Grey phalarope (Falaróp gobmhór) are wading birds which are passage migrants which visit Ireland between August and November. They breed in the bogs and marshes in Siberia's high arctic. It's amazing the distances these small birds can travel!
