Join local volunteers to support the Restore Ballymacraven River Association, with whom Hometree have partnered in recent months, on this free practical field trip to 'The Glen' of the Ballymacraven River in Ennistymon. Learn more about the use of Nature Based Solutions in habitat creation, river restoration and grounding people in nature. This 2 hour event, led by river restoration specialists and local nature based solutions practitioner, Ruairí Ó Conchúir (LAWPRO), will focus on the beautiful riparian woodlands of the lower Ballymacraven River above the confluence with the Inagh River Estuary. It will review how large wind blown trees and timber can be used for nature. Practical demonstration work (outside of the river) will be undertaken as part of the field trip and the plans of the Restore Ballymacraven River Association for river restoration later in 2025 using a NBS approach will be outlined. This is free event, but booking is required, and places are limited. The event will be followed by a cup of tea / coffee hosted by the Restore Ballymacraven River Association.

RBRA representatives – an overview of restoration efforts and future plans.
Inland Fisheries Ireland – insights into the river’s ecology and biodiversity.
Hometree ecologist Fiach Byrne – a deep dive into habitat assessment, invasive species, and indicators of ecosystem health.

Come down and celebrate International Women's day by celebrating Mother Earth and planting a few trees! There will be tree planting on Saturday 8th March from 11 o'clock to 1 o'clock.
Also, we plan to plant some trees in the space that has been opened up. Bring wetgear and suitable footwear. Meet up just below the Falls Hotel along the river bank. All welcome!

Also, we plan to plant some trees in the space that has been opened up. Bring wetgear and suitable footwear. Meet up just below the Falls Hotel along the river bank. All welcome!

We will walk along the Glen and view the results of the removal of the Cherry Laurel. Also, we plan to plant some trees in the space that has been opened up. Bring wetgear and suitable footwear. Meet up just below the Falls Hotel along the river bank. All welcome!

Following a major fish kill on the Ballymacraven River in May 2023 significant activity has taken place to help restore, enhance and protect the river for and by the local community of Ennistymon and North Clare. Much of this activity has been undertaken by the volunteer members of the Restore Ballymacraven River Association.
This Heritage Week event which will be delivered jointly by the Restore Ballymacraven River Association and the Local Authority Waters Programme. The event will be suitable for children and families and will review the wonderful biodiversity of the Ballymacraven River and the planned work to continue to restore, protect and enhance the river and its riparian zone. The event will explore the sights and sounds of a river and the ecosystem services this river provides to us all.
This event will be suitable for people of all ages and will follow a river path down the Inagh River and along the Ballymacraven River and up the beautiful mature riparian zone of The Glen. It promises to be a very special event to explore the wonderful biodiversity of the Ballymacraven River.
